Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) – Both the State Senate and House of Delegates revealed their proposed spending plans over the weekend. However, a James Madison University Political Scientist does not believe there is enough room to compromise between the two plans over Medicaid expansion.
The House provides some dollars for hospitals, while Senators provide a private option for expanding Medicaid. JMU's Robert Roberts says the private option does not solve the philosophical issue Republicans have, being they are opposed to expanding it overall.
Roberts says hospitals are expected to lobby heavily, and that may peel some Republicans away. However, he believes it is more likely Democrats cave in, as the issue is unlikely to prove big enough to, in his eyes, to risk the state's credit rating over.
