Supporters Of Proposal Say Argument Is Flawed
Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) – A group of pastors took to the front steps of Richmond City Hall Thursday to call on City Council not to support a symbolic proposal to recognize gay marriages. The proposal is symbolic because Richmond cannot do anything without General Assembly approval.
The pastors, including Mount Olivet Church's Bishop Darryl Husband, say the purpose of marriage is procreation. They argue traditional marriage is the only way to go about procreation. However, the Richmond Gay Community Foundation's Bill Harrison points out many heterosexual marriages have no children.
Husband says they have to stand on morality, and will do so, even as poll numbers move against them. Harrison says it will be just a matter of years before the issue is behind them, and almost everyone recognizes gay marriage.
